Oil, acrylic and spray paint on maple wood skatedeck. Comes with wall hangers. 79x20cm

Painted onto a skateboard deck, the endangered White Tailed Sabrewing in upward drips to echo its plight the skatedeck.—an object built for motion, risk, and freedom—and this hummingbird, captured mid-flight against a blazing, high-voltage field of colour. The sabrewing is one of the largest hummingbirds, known for its strength, speed, and almost defiant presence. Unlike the fragile stereotype often associated with hummingbirds, this species is powerful, territorial, and fearless—qualities that mirror the spirit of skateboarding itself.

Hummingbirds are symbols of resilience, precision, and relentless forward motion. Their wings beat at extraordinary speeds, allowing them to hover, pivot, and change direction instantly—an aerial echo of a skater navigating balance, gravity, and momentum. The sabrewing’s ability to remain suspended in mid-air reflects that split second in skateboarding where time seems to pause: the apex of a trick, the moment of risk before landing, the commitment to movement despite the inevitability of impact.
