‘What Those Eyes Must Have Seen’ is the title of my new piece of an African Leopard and was something I often thought about whilst painting its other-worldly green eyes. They are the most extraordinarily beautiful cats that are as at home in the trees as they are in the water. Populations in North Africa, the Middle East and Russia are now Critically Endangered. Loss of habitat and prey, as well as intense persecution as livestock killers, is the chief threat to this magnificent big cat. They are heavily hunted in southern Asia for their skin and bones supplying the Chinese medicinal trade. We must protect all that we have left as a works without leopards does not bare thinking about..... 🐆
