This work features the endangered Mangrove Hummingbird, rendered mid-flight as it dissolves into upward drips against a melting neon skyscape. The fluorescent colours — deliberately artificial and unstable — evoke a world overheating and slipping out of balance, mirroring the fragility of the bird’s habitat.
Traditionally, hummingbirds symbolise freedom, lightness, and joy — qualities echoed in the sensation of skateboarding itself: weightless, fleeting, and alive in the present moment. By placing this delicate species on a skateboard deck, the work contrasts exhilaration with extinction, asking what it means to experience freedom in a world where so many creatures are losing theirs. ifully.
