This work features the endangered Booted Racket-tail hummingbird, rendered in hyper-realistic detail as it dissolves into upward drips against a melting neon skyscape. The fluorescent colours evoke an artificial, man-made environment—both seductive and toxic—pressing in on a creature built for lightness and air.
Hummingbirds have long symbolised freedom, joy, and defiance of gravity, their rapid wings allowing them to hover where others cannot. Here, that sense of weightless movement mirrors the feeling of skateboarding itself: fleeting moments of flight within an urban landscape. Yet the bird’s partial erasure hints at fragility—an emblem of how even the most liberated, resilient beings are increasingly at risk of disappearing altogether.
