This work depicts the Asian Blue Carpenter Bee, suspended mid-flight, its form dissolving into upward drips against a melting neon skyscape. The fluorescent, man-made colours speak to environmental instability and ecological imbalance, amplifying the bee’s increasing vulnerability within a rapidly changing world.
Bees have long symbolised alchemy, transformation, and the unseen forces that sustain life. Here, those associations mirror the sensation of skateboarding itself — a fleeting state of balance, motion, and freedom. By placing this vital pollinator on a skateboard deck, the piece draws a quiet parallel between human exhilaration and the fragile systems that make life possible, asking what is lost when those systems begin to disappear.
