Oil, acrylic and gold leaf on wood, 11x8.5x2cm closed, 11x17x1cm open.

This small hinged arch-panel opens like a devotional relic, inviting the viewer into a moment of quiet revelation. At its heart sits the Rose Robin—soft, luminous and impossibly vivid—its incandescent plumage glowing against a field of distressed gold leaf. The format echoes ancient icons, but the subject is a living emissary of the wild, elevated here to the status of a sacred messenger.

The inscription on the front, “The Robin is the fire-bringer,” nods to old folktales in which the robin carries the spark of divine fire to humankind, forever marking its breast with the heat of its devotion. Inside, the Rose Robin becomes a contemporary retelling of that myth. Its neon-pink chest feels almost ember-like, suggesting a creature that holds warmth, love, and spiritual ignition within its tiny frame.

Perched on a simple branch, the Rose Robin becomes a bridge between worlds—earthly and divine, ancient story and modern ecological reality. Its presence reminds us that fire is not only destruction, but transformation: the fire of creativity, renewal, courage, and the burning heart that refuses to dim.

In this piece, the Rose Robin embodies the idea that even the smallest beings carry immense spiritual weight. It is both guardian and giver—bringer of fire, bearer of hope, and a symbol of the wild’s enduring, luminous spirit.
