Oil and acrylic on gold leaf, on cradled wooden panel, 15x15x2cm.
The Sacred Songbird Series reimagines familiar songbirds as divine, sacred figures, each perched in a luminous world of gold leaf with a gentle halo radiating around it. By presenting these birds in the style of religious icons, the paintings invite viewers to see the sacred in the natural world and draws attention to how even the smallest creatures can embody a sense of the divine, turning the birds we are accustomed to into something almost transcendent.
The Pink Robin itself is a symbol of vulnerability wrapped in vibrancy. Native to the shadowed forests of southeast Australia and Tasmania, these birds thrive in the dim, mossy quiet—the places most people never see. Their startling magenta breast is nature’s paradox: something so bold thriving in a world of shade. Spiritually, they represent the idea of an inner light that shines brightest in dark times, the courage of softness, and the beauty of what chooses to remain hidden rather than loud.
