A Fossa is the largest carnivore on the island of Madagascar, closely related to the mongoose family, and resembles a cat with a slender body, long tail, and semi-retractable claws. As an apex predator, the fossa primarily preys on lemurs, birds, and rodents, utilizing its exceptional climbing and jumping abilities to hunt in its forest habitat. Due to habitat loss and other threats, the fossa is listed as a vulnerable species by the IUCN. Only 2500 remain in the wild.
