Latin: Bombus monticola
Location: A localised and declining species, found almost exclusively on moorland in association with stands of Bilberry at the higher latitudes or altitudes of Western Europe, Scotland, Northern England and Ireland including parts of Scandinavia, the Alps, the Pyrenees, Northern Italy and the Balkan mountains. No records from the south-east.
Characteristics: A particularly attractive bumblebee, with bright yellow bands on the thorax and a rich orange-red tail covering around two-thirds of the abdomen. A localised and declining species, found almost exclusively on moorland in association with stands of Bilberry. No records from the south-east.
Endangered status: Vulnerable
